Step Sisters with Glenis Redmond and Patricia Starek

"Step Sisters: A Poetic Dialogue on Race and Womanhood" looks at womanhood, friendship and race through the language of two performance poets. They will carry you from the streets of New York into their grandmothers' kitchens, through the eyes of a child to the voices of mothers and sisters.

They are loud in laughter and fierce with tears
rendering an unflinching poetic investigation
that demonstrates the power is in the stepping.
They are two different daughters...
One black, one white
They merge at the intersection of poetry and friendship...
Glenis and Patricia give voice
to what rarely gets said.
These women step
and believe in a common language...

Glenis Redmond is included in the prestigious publication, A Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers, and journals including the McGraw-Hill African-American Literary Anthology. She has published a full-length book of poetry, "Backbone," is the subject of an award-winning video entitled "Mama's Magic," and two CDs of poetry.

Patricia Starek's career as a poet began in the slam arena including performances in the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe and Bar 13. Patricia's publications include "Steam Dreams: An Anthology of Poetic Thoughts on Race, Politics and Love", her first chapbook "Run On Life", and two children's books underway.
