Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre's New Production of FABLES
Imagine a camel in a tutu performing for an audience of her peers, a crow convincing a bear that cooking pots are the latest in fashionable headgear, an ostrich falling madly in love and an arrogant lion humbled by a tiny beetle.  ACDT's newest production of FABLES, based on Arnold Lobel's modern classic and winner of the Caldecott Medal features these unusually juxtaposed creatures that dance, talk and tell stories with morals.

Glenis Redmond Book Signing
On Friday, August 29th, Malaprops Bookstore/Cafe will hold a book signing for Glenis Redmond.  Glenis will be signing copies of her newly released book UNDER THE SUN, a collection of poetry about celebration and sorrow, written in narrative and autobiographical style.

Scott Ainslie Releases New CD, Thunder's Mouth
It was back in 1967 that Blues musician and songwriter Scott Ainslie heard John Jackson, a DC area gravedigger, play Piedmont Blues. Things have never been the same since. Ainslie is now releasing his fifth compact disc, Thunder's Mouth: a powerful, rootsy slice of traditional blues, original and African-American traditional songs with Eugene Friesen, Sam Broussard, and T-Bone Wolk.

Allan Wolf's The Blood Hungry Spleen, Top Ten Poetry Pick of 2008
Allan Wolf's The Blood Hungry Spleen and Other Poems About Our Parts (Candlewick Press) came in at number six on The Book Sense Poetry Top Ten Picks for 2008. This list, issued every April to celebrate National Poetry Month, includes books by Margaret Atwood, Robert Haas, Li-Young Lee, and Mary Oliver. The Blood Hungry Spleen is the only children's title to make the list.
