Hobey Ford's UNIMA Citation winning shadow puppetry in Rainbow Bridge

NEW HOBEY FORD MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LECTURE/DEMO AND WORKSHOP; ALSO EXCELLENT FOR AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT FOR ADULTS! Ichabod-Sketches from Sleepy Hollow Film and Lecture: This program is a lecture demonstration using Hobey Ford’s new short film Ichabod-Sketches from Sleepy Hollow to explore Washingtom Irving’s original story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Ford will present the 7 minute film and talk about his adaptation, the artform of 19th C rod puppetry and how other interpretations of the story misrepresent the text. He will bring along puppets and props from the film. The program lasts 45 minutes.
Additional Workshop: Hobey Ford will lead a workshop in shadow puppetry, a technique used in Ichabod for some scenes. This ancient art form, which had its roots in Asia, was carried to Europe by Marco Polo and by the 19th century became a popular novelty. Students will learn basic construction and theory to construct and use shadow puppetry. 45 to 90 minutes

While touring Jordan this Spring, Hobey Ford had an opportunity to perform for children in the Syrian refugee camps. Ready about his experiences https://loydartists.com/images/resources/HobeyFordArticlePuppetryJournal.jpg.

HOBEY'S NEWEST SHOW
MIGRATION- Hobey Ford and the Golden Rod Puppets return to the natural world of animals. A sequel to his original production, ANIMALIA, Ford's new show is most appropriate for 2nd-5th grades & families. Come along as Hobey explores the wonders, trials and sometimes unspeakable beauty of animals who move across the planet in search of food, shelter and often a better way of life.

HOBEY FORD'S PERFORMANCES
Using his own voice to create characters and sound effects, tell stories and make his puppets sing, Hobey's performances feature his handmade original signature, “Foamies," animated, carved-foam rod puppets. He performs unmasked, in full view in his roles as MC, engaged storyteller, puppeteer and animator, creating a seamless, magical and hypnotic dance between the audience, the puppeteer, the life-like puppets and the artistic scenery and often incorporates music into his productions. Occasionally the puppets will move right out into a delighted audience as part of the performance! Most performances are appropriate for families and children age pre-K through grade 5. Special arrangements may be made to adapt performances and especially workshops for older students. Please contact us!

MIGRATION- Immerse your audience in the original story of a young Mexican girl, Beatriz (whose name means "traveler") as she witnesses wild animals and insects who migrate: Monarch butterflies, polar bears, the Godwit bird (a Pacific Rim sandpiper which flies 18,000 miles each year!) and the giant sperm whale, even as her own human family is experiencing a migration journey. Ford performs with his puppets behind a thin circular theatrical scrim onto which original video scenery is projected. A sequel to Animalia, Ford's newest show is most appropriate for grades 2-5 & families.

Telling Folktales With Shadow Puppetry and From Larvae to Butterfly: Metamorphosis Through Puppetry
Hobey's intricate shadow puppetry work and creation of the original rod puppets, the "Foamies," have earned him a place on stages across the world. These workshops teach the process for creating and perforning with shadow puppetry as well as strategies for developing lesson plans and learning opportunities for students using shadow puppetry. The focus can either be on literature and folktales or on the science of metamorphosis.

FOR STUDENTSHobey Ford's Shadow Puppetry Student Workshops For K-5th graders, Hobey combines storytelling with shadow puppetry and brings a variety of cultures to life in the classroom through folktales. During this workshop, Hobey will demonstrate shadow puppetry and teach students to make a simple "rod" puppet, basically a character's body on one or more sticks. Students will become familiar with tales from several different cultures, ultimately choosing one to illustrate with their own easily-made shadow puppets and learn shadow puppetry performance techniques. This workshop can also focus on the Monarch butterfly and the science of metamorphosis.

Writing Stories With Peepers - a workshop exploring story development and creative writing using Ford's patented Peeper puppets.
